Celebrating a Decade of Success for Nick O’Brien

Celebrating a decade with the Hino brand this month, we take a moment to talk to Nick O’Brien, Fleet Sales Account Manager for Sci-Fleet Hino. Boasting sales of 1,000 Hino trucks, Nick contributes his success to “Just keep showing up and do your best every day and success will come. It is an exciting industry to be a part of, with plenty of perks and be encouraged that you are selling a premium Japanese product”.

The definition of success?

“Success in the trucking industry doesn’t happen overnight”, Nick says, “It’s a slow boil but being a part of Sci-Fleet Hino - an established family-owned company and a leader in the automotive industry for over 30 years - is encouraging. I work with an amazing team with inspiring leadership. 

A quote that resonates with me, one our General Manager Brad Elliott often reminds us of, it never pays to assume, and with this in mind, I’ve always strived to being open, listening to my customers and being transparent.”

Testing your skills and knowledge

Knowing the Hino product and wanting to continue his journey of being challenged, Nick decided to participate in the annual Hino National Skills contest for the first time in 2024.

Nick acknowledges, “As daunting as the thought was, the best advice I can give any Hino Sales Consultant thinking of competing is to not overthink it.  Competing in the final round of Skills at Hino Australia, you realise each contestant is in the same boat as you and experiencing the same pressures, so just go out there and do your best.

It’s a highly professional event and Hino Australia do a fantastic job of hosting and giving us these opportunities”.

The opportunity for Nick to put his 10 years of skills and knowledge to the test and compete with dealerships from across the country is one all Hino dealership employees from Sales, Service and Parts are encouraged to do. It’s an opportunity to progress and be recognised for being the best in their field.

For a first-time entrant, making it to the Final of the National Skills Contest competing against Hino Sales consultants  is an amazing accomplishment and we congratulate Nick for taking the initiative to compete and test his skills.

Nick has proven that by taking the initiative to challenge himself and always being open to learn pays off through recognition and reward.  Recently Hino Australia held their annual Dealer of the Year Awards, where Hino staff from dealerships across Australia are recognised and celebrated for their success. We congratulate Nick for receiving a milestone achievement award for Sales over 1,000 units.  No better personal achievement than being recognised for one’s hard work and dedication to their job. Congratulations Nick.
